Foreign Secretary William Hague has announced some initial cuts in the FCO budget (but so far only in the programmes it runs – a very small part of the FCO budget compared with staffing, embassies and high commissions). Out of the £140m programmes budget, he plans to cut £18m (12-13%), but...
Labour leadership Candidate Ed Balls, visited a Newham School yesterday and he talks above about the threat to free school meals. Hat-tip thingy Labourlist.

Despite a focus on maternal and child health the G8 has been accused of abandoning the world’s poor.
Pictures are from a really enjoyable afternoon I spent a few weeks ago at the summer fair of the “Friends of Abbey Garden”. This is on the actual site of what was once the medieval Langthorn Abbey. For many years this 2000 sq feet plot of land was a waste ground but it is now a community led park...
England coach Fabio Capello would do well to take a transcript copy of Germany coach Joachim Loew’s post-match press conference – because in it he would find all the simple reasons why his side were trounced 4-1 and sent packing from the World Cup on Sunday.
This incredible strike in a rural Norfolk school went on for 25 years - from 1914 to 1939! There is now a museum in the village and an nnual Labour movement rally to commemorate it, which I hope to visit this year. Check out more on the history here.
Wasn’t Young Clegg so Great Before the Election – But now he’s grown up he’s Public Enemy No.2 (second to David Cameron).
Nick Clegg has had to ‘crawl’ back to his constituency to talk to business leaders about snatching the loan away from nuclear development company Forge masters.
He spoke to Tony peddler chairman of the board, and at his constituency office he spoke [...]
A "Progressive budget"? Yeah. Check out this morning's Guardian take on this and the CONDEM belief that we are all sharing the pain.
Osborne's "tough but fair" claim is also shown to be a nonsense.
I blogged n his "Equality of Sacrifice" poster in April and thought it could be a...
UNISON NEC member Louise Couling who won the election last month has had to resign and re-run in a by-election on 8 July.

"We now have just over two weeks to go...
So the CONDEMs are going to protect the NHS and front line services?

The Queen’s attempt to dip her paws in the taxpayers pocket, but is denied by Chancellor George Osborne.
In Chancellor George Osborne’s Emergency Budget 2010 he refuses to give the queen a pay rise of £7.9 million, it is quite a no-brainer that if the country is in recession and money is tight you don’t ‘beg’ [...]
Did anyone notice how Nick Clegg looked very bored at Chancellor George Osborne’s budget speech in the House of Commons.
He was at the point of yawning and looked very exhausted so I made a political cartoon that addresses Nick Clegg’s boredom.
Enjoy :D

I wasn’t able to attend the flag raising for Armed Forces Day at Newham Town Hall this morning but Ipswich Labour Councillor (and former soldier) Alasdair Ross posts far more eloquently (and with more reason) that I could on his local ceremony. Up and down the country there were similar...
On Wednesday morning there was a debate on Defending the LGPS. I posted about his excellent UNISON Labour Link leaflet on the threat to our pensions just before the General Election.
I hope those who claim there as "no difference" between Labour and the Tories are pleased with...
